Preview of Xpostulate Improvements

leave a comment »

A preview of what’s to come…

Thinking of UI enhancements, I added the Xpostulate little icon thingy right into the GUI.

What do you think?

Other items on their way:

  • Posterous support. I have interacted with the posterous api via bash with curl, so, just need to translate my scripting for that to tcl with http. Cake, but requires time. I thought I would have that done this past week, but, no joy…too much work (somebody’s gotta pay the rent around here).
  • Blogger support. – The great and benevolent Google® has granted me an API key, and I have looked at the API, but not yet played with it, but this is likely to come this season…soon, me dro0gies.
  • Read your statusnet public timeline or updates from a specific person. This I have, again, done in bash, so just a matter of coding it into tcl. Although, I question if this is appropriate for Xpostulate, and whether it might not be better to do this with iDenTickles only, since iDenTickles is a microblogging client, and Xpostulate is intended for crossposting to blogs, not reading others’ updates.
  • Download, edit, & republish older entries. This is on my todo list, but for each blogging service I have to look at how their API handles this, and then code stuff in, and develop new GUI elements for housing various functions, and blah, blah, blah. It will be work..heavy lifting…but it’s on my TODO list.

Posting to Posterous with curl

leave a comment »

Okay, so I DID successfully post with curl (thanks to some clarifications frmo John Tucker). Now, I have written a script that will allow me to write a post in vim and fire it off. It looks like this:

#!/bin/bash
# post to posterous from bash cli with curl

# I could do this with read -p "Enter ur username d0od: " username
# kind of thing, but I just hardwired my info in.
# edit accordingly for your info.
username=YOUR_USERNAME
password=YOUR_PASSWORD
apitok=YOUR_API_TOKEN

# creates a date stamp for naming the post file
filedate=$(date %m%d%y%H%M%S)

# set
post title read -p "Enter a post title: " ptitle

# write post in vim
vim $filedate.ppost pbody="$(cat $filedate.ppost)"

# send post to posterous with curl

if [[ $(curl -X POST -u $username:$password -d "api_token=$apitok" \
-d "post[title]=$ptitle" -d "post[body]=$pbody" \
http://posterous.com/api/2/sites/1814977/posts | grep error) ]]; then
echo "Too bad, do0d...FAIL!"
else
echo "Success! Posted to Posterous!"
fi

mv $(pwd)/$filedate.ppost ~/Documents/fposts/
# moved post to dir for safekeeping.
# you can use different dir, d00d

exit

This means that I have consquered the posterous API, and will now be able to add posterous support to Xpostulate.

New Xpostulate release in the works

leave a comment »

Okay, I just pushed new code for Xpostulate to github with the following changes:

  • removed iziblog, scribbld, inksome (spam SEO havens anyway)
  • removed twitter until I can get oauth working
  • added support for custom wordpress installations
  • added support for posting to friendika with bbcode insertions
  • changed identi.ca feature to support any status.net installation.
  • also, various pertinent alterations to gui, of course

all in ONE DAY! because I F–KING ROCK!

I have NOT updated the win/lin installers on the main Xpostulate page, yet.
I have to play with installjammer and get those worked up again, and will probably give a day or two for this new code to be tested,
since, it seems, I now have a contributor on the project who seems willing to test and prod this code.

WELCOME ABOARD, Charles Roth!

Still to do:

  • I really, really want a button to click to automagically translate bbcode to html or vice-versa. That I can do, but need time.
  • Get oauth working for twitter…maybe
  • add support for blogger
  • change the LJ, IJ, DJ, DW to be simple moveabletype, with multiple options, rather than hardwired for 4 different sites, so, say, if you only use LJ and DW, you don’t have DJ and IJ cluttering your interface, or, even, if you have multiple LJ accts (I do, one for my art, other for hackery), you can do that, etc.

Now, I really must get back to translating these Brazilian pharma regulations.

Xpostulate now playing with Tumblr, too

leave a comment »

Okay…well, that was easy..
I just successfully made a test post to Tumblr using Xpostulate.

I have just uploaded new installers for both Windows and Linux, as well as the new source code, and am about to update the manual with information relevant to Tumblr posting.

further xpostulations

leave a comment »

Okay…
I have now successfully posted to my own wordpress installation here at baldwinsoftware.com/blog (see this post), using Xpostulate

Lotso progress this weekend:
Added wordpress posting, scribbld and inksome, changed LJ, IJ , DJ and DW posting to xmlrpc.
For some reason, I was unable to get scribbld and iziblog to accept xml posts.
At this juncture, scribbld, iziblog and inksome are all being sent flat posts, but, it would be better if all blogs were using the same method, rather than some accepting xmlrpc, and others using flat posting.
So, I need to figure out why scribbld and iziblog are refusing xmlrpc posts (and test xmlrpc with inksome).
That’s high on my priority list, at the moment.

Also, I will write in the means for YOU (dear user) to use Xpostulate with your custom wordpress installation, as I have just done with mine (wordpress posting in the currently released version is only to wordpress.com, but since I am now successfully posting to my custom install, shortly you will have the same option).

Then, of course, as previously mentioned various times, I will be implementing blogger functions, hopefully.

Further Xpostulations: v.0.2 release shortly

with one comment

Okay…

In the past 24 hours I have successfully implemented xmlrpc posting for LJ, IJ and DW, as already mentioned.

I have added posting to Scribbld.net and Inksome.com, as well,
And, I have successfully posted to my WordPress.

It seems I will be posting a new zip shortly to the Xpostulate page with support for these features.

There’ still plenty of work to be done, such as tweaking and configuring the interface, adding more features (especially support for blogger api), etc.

Nonetheless, I’m satisfied enough with what’s been done so far, I’m finally going to take Xpostulate from v. 0.1 to v. 0.2
Big step!

🙂

I’ll call it v1.0 when it has blogger support and can download prior entries for editing.
I believe I’ve mentioned this, but I don’t, at least at this juncture, foresee myself adding stuff like friend management, etc…but who knows…Maybe for version 2.0?
