Listening to Bebel Gilberto using Tickle Tunes, while having another look at the code thereof…
Ah, but I’d better get back to translating these Brazilian articles…
If I had time to play, really, I’d go outside.

identickles and other strange beasts …

leave a comment »

Just a brief note…
I started to hack up a little ticklish client for identi.ca, the microblogging site.
It’s here: IdenTickles, on the baldwinsoftware wiki.
There’s not much to it, really…just a little tcl/tk gui to enter a “dent”, which calls curl to send it to identi.ca.

here’s a screenshot

Wouldn’t be exciting at
all, if it weren’t for the fact that I had Salma Hayek on my desktop wallpaper that day…

In other news: I keep hacking at the baldwnsoftware.com site. I changed the css colors, most significantly, today, but I’ve also decided to eschew use of the nabble news and forum elements I was using before, as well as the nanoblog I had built, opting rather to use this wordpress blog to post news of new releases and developments, and to make use of the wikidot wiki for any forums or other discussion.
In all truth, not a soul has participated in the nabble news or forums, other than little old me, anyway, so I’m not expecting much of a party here, either.
I figure maintaining the wiki is useful, and to that end, I’d like to move the baldwinsoftware wiki from wikidot to here on this server as well.

I’ve tried to install mediawiki, but am experiencing difficulties at the moment…

My tickles…

leave a comment »

Well.
I think I’m learning pretty quickly, considering I started writing bash scripts in
November, and started Tcl-ing in January.
To date, I have four programs already released to the community.
Granted, some of them still need some work, but, in truth,
Tickle Text is now a pretty complete text editor.
TransProCalc is proving infinitely useful in my office, and I know I have other users there.
T-Dict is quite useful.
And, now, TickleTunes, which I intend to expand quite a bit, is pretty cool for a start.
Heck, right now it’s shuffling Maná, Los Jaguares, Juliete Venegas and Catupecu Machu for me.
GroOvy…
I’m pretty proud of myself.
Mind you, I know I still have much to learn.
I’m not even a REAL Hacker, yet…not by a long stretch, but, as an eager novice,
I do believe I show promise….
De verdad, ¡Tengo muchas alas!
Here’s the recap:

My Tickles
My Tickles
programs I wrote…
Tickle Text – ticklish text editor.
TransProCalcFOSS translation project mgmt tools.
Tickle Dict – Free, corss-platform dict look-up program.
Tickle Tunes – Ticklish tunes and video player.

Not mention that I mastered my own Linux distro: Linguas OS

assignments: python pizza py

leave a comment »

I’ve managed to gather some hacker tutors.
Real hackers (unlike myself, an aspirant and novice, by any real measure).

One gave the an assigment to make a program that generates 5 random numbers.
I did:

# Let’s make a pizza.
#
# escrito por anthony baldwin

from random import randint

print “I’m hungry!”
print “Let’s make a nice pizza, eh!”

ing = (“pepperoni”, “ham”, “onions”, “sausage”, “bacon”, “peppers”, “spiders”, “mozzarella”, “anchovies”, “chocolate chips”, “dog hairs”, “toe-nail clippings”, “fried clams”, “lollipops”, “paper clips”, “calamari”, “m&ms”, “broccoli”, “gum drops”, “green beans”)

print “Let’s make a pizza with”

for i in range(5):
p = randint(0,19)
print ing[p]

print ” ”
print “That’s a nice pizza, eh! ”
print “Mangeamos!”

Another told me to write a program with writes 5 lines
*
**
***
*****
but not with 5 print statements, with a loop, so that it could be
extended to print up to 500 such lines by only changing the number.

I did:

# stars python
# escrito por anthony baldwin / tonytraductor@linguasos.org

t = “*”
print “Twinkle, twinkle little stars.”

for i in range(5):
print t * (i+1)

print “Twinkle, twinkle…”

I am a translator and interpreter (English, French, Spanish and Portuguese),
and a Linux geek.
I dig skating, both old school quad/rink rollerskating, and inline aggressive skating.

I created:

TransProCalc
– Free (FOSS), cross-platform translation project management software.

I created:

LinguasOS
– Linux for Translators.

I am the owner of:

BaldwinLinguas.com
– Translating and Linguistic Services.
