Their current API is incredibly simply, but, yeah, sending name/password as clear text is iffy, so something a bit more secure is probably a good idea, really.
I've still been meaning to get Xpostulate working with google/blogger.
I also apparently have a few glitches to iron out in windows and mac versions, which is maddening, since I don't have a windows or mac machine around to test on (and don't want one).

Are you planning to have xpostulate handle twitter after they switch to oauth/xauth at the end of June?
